The summer of 1962 was just like any other summer for freshman college student Billy Carson except he would be spending it back home in Pine Springs, Illinois with his mother Maggie, best friend Sam, and the elusive girl of his dreams, Ellie. At least he could return to his summer job -  working at the drive-in owned by Charlie for it was that job that kept him connected to his late father - B-Movie director and military casualty Jack Carson -  a man he never knew. What Billy doesn't know is that the summer of '62 will be the one that changes the coure of his life and unlocks the "big picture" of his past.
