A STAGE KINDLY: Services for Musical Theatre writers

Inclusion in a Revue: A STAGE KINDLY regularly presents a cabaret style revue of new musical theatre pieces from around the world. More details of this can be found by clicking on the link to your left called 'The Revue'. There are several exciting perks to having your work included in the show aside from the invaluable exposure of your work. Information regarding these, and also details of the small inclusion fee, will be sent to you after your enquiry. We will consider including up to three songs per writing team. We are currently accepting submissions for future revues - please write to astagekindly@aol.com introducing yourself and your work, and we will be in touch.

Exclusive Cabaret: In the same style as one of our regular cabarets, we will perform a showcase of music exclusively from your catalogue of composition. We will cast the showcase according to the requirements of your music, and intensively workshop your music with our singers to bring out the best in your work. We will invite producers, literary agents and performers along to the performance on your behalf, and also make sound and video recordings, copies of which you will receive after the show, which you can use in further promotion of your work. A Stage Kindly will also actively distribute these recordings for you, further exposing your music around the world. The fees for this service (and indeed all other services unless otherwise stipulated) are negotiable. Please contact us at astagekindly@aol.com for more details.

Notation and Arrangement: Have your hand-written notation digitized in NWC and MIDI formats, plus a hard copy printed. (Sibelius also available.)

Casting Consultancy: Do you need to arrange an audition for a project you're working on? Are you looking for singers, dancers, actors, models? Are you producing a show, cabaret, music video, student film, or photoshoot? A STAGE KINDLY's casting consultancy could be the solution to your problem. As casting directors, we will take care of the whole casting process - from organising the audition, to finding a venue, to confirming suitable applicants, to using our consultancy to help you make informed casting decisions.

Evaluation/critique/appraisal: We will listen to your new musicals and works-in-progress and give you an appraisal of each song, the characters, the story, and can also suggest improvements.

Your Music in Concert: A STAGE KINDLY will produce a full-scale concert version of your musical. We will record both a studio and a live sound recording, and a video recording. The musical forces involved will most likely be one piano and however many singers, though further instrumentation is negotiable.

Full-Scale Workshop Production: A STAGE KINDLY will produce your musical on stage in London (or, indeed, somewhere else in England if you prefer) with a professional cast, an especially designed set, exclusive graphic design, and an intensive promotional campaign. Both a live recording and a studio cast recording (and a video recording) will be made. Negotiated on an indiviaual basis.

Demos: Would you like a demo recording made of your song/s? We will record several different versions of your music using different singers. Our speciality is musical theatre, but we also have trained opera singers, and experienced jazz and rock singers available to us to bring your work to life. We can offer a basic package or a deluxe one, tailored to your specific requirements.

Translation: We can organise a singable translation of your musical's libretto to or from quite literally any language, vetted by native speakers. Our extensive database of enthusiastic translators all with a specific interest in the theatre are fluent in a diverse variety of languages, from Afrikaans to Yiddish.

Translation Improvement: As a foreign speaker, have you translated your libretto into English? If so, our trained and experienced native English speaking librettists with a background in both translation, interpretation, and linguistics are on hand to correct and improve upon your translation - adding a professional touch to your show that could make all the difference between a work-in-progress and a finished product.

Website Design: We can design for you your very own dot com!! For a writer or writing team, or indeed for a musical. Examples of websites we have created include this very site www.astagekindly.com also www.sovietzion.com www.turkishdelighttheopera.com and www.balletsrussesthemusical.com

We are very happy to consider any other services you have in mind, welcoming any enquiries to astagekindly@aol.com

CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING

"A STAGE KINDLY"

PRODUCING WORK ON YOUR BEHALF

How long a run would you like? This is possibly the main consideration. This will really depend on what your aim is in staging the work. If you are looking to stage a private recital, two nights is more than enough to accommodate an invited audience. For little more work, the show could run for a week for example, or even a fortnight. This has obvious advantages (more people attend, word-of-mouth promotion, ticket sales), but also it's own risks (selling tickets to the public requires an appropriate promotional campaign). The third alternative is a three-week run, which is imperative if you are looking for critical appraisal - publications do not generally revue shows that run for less time.

How many 'hands'? How many performers will the show require? Would the actors' doubling-up of certain characters compromise your show? Do you need an understudy, or a swing? This circumvents the possibility for an embarrassing episode in front of an audience, though adds an extra cost to the budget. There are also extra complications involved in working with children.

Venue? We are not obligated to any one venue, which means that we can be flexible to your requirements. Could your show fill the Palace Theatre? Is a gothic church the perfect venue, or maybe a country manor? A swanky West-End bar? Or an established, reputable fringe theatre venue! The choice is yours. If your show has an appeal to a certain audience, we could help you find appropriate venues to accommodate. Although London based, should you so desire, we could stage your show anywhere in the country!

Instrumentation? Does your show work with piano accompaniment, or would you like other instrumentalists involved?

What style of performance? A revue? A concert? A semi-staged production? A fully staged production?

Calibre of performers? The more money you offer the performers, the higher standard is of performers who audition... One point to consider though is that as a professional theatre company, we will not engage amateur performers; though we do our best to secure the highest quality of performer for the most economic cost to you.

Extras? A personalised dot com for your show? Lead-sheets arranged? Live or studio sound recording of the show? An edited video of the show? A behind-the-scenes documentary? We're very happy to consider any special requests.

Staging a production of any size does cost money! Here are some of the costs associated with staging a production:

  • Audition venue
  • Rehearsal space
  • Printing costs (scores, libretto, playbills, posters, flyers)
  • Design (Welcome to use it again in future promotion of your show, we design for you a logo particular to this production. Most usually it will be based on your original design. From this design, we will create flyers, posters, etc). Unless you already have a professionally diesigned logo which we will agree to use at our discretion, this option is not negotable)
  • Producer's commission
  • Travel costs
  • Performers' fees
  • MD's fee
